About Us

The 1974 passage of the Ohio Landlord Tenant Law by Ohio’s General Assembly resulted in a group of grassroots advocates who fought for tenants’ rights in Cuyahoga County joining forces and formalizing their volunteer effort by incorporating Cleveland Tenants Organization (CTO) in 1975.

Since then, Cleveland Tenants Organization has been committed to preserving and expanding the supply of safe, decent, fair, affordable, and accessible rental housing in the Greater Cleveland area.  We do this by preventing homelessness, resolving disputes between tenants and landlords, advocating for the needs of low to moderate income tenants, informing citizens of their rights and responsibilities in rental housing, empowering tenants individually and collectively to represent themselves and their interests, representing tenants and the interest of tenants in the preservation and promotion of rental housing rights, and combating discrimination in housing based on race, religion, color, gender, handicap, familial status, military status, socio/economic class and sexual orientation.
